4 Unconventional Wine Drinks to Cozy Up With

As the winter bears down on us its the time of year where there’s nothing better than cozying up by the fire and relaxing. Your evenings should be full of warmth, comfort, and of course the perfect glass of wine to sip on. To help you relax even more we’ve taken the time to put together a few different wine drinks you have to try before the holidays are over.

Festive Cranberry Sangria

Almost all of you are familiar with the typical sangria you make in the summer. How about a festive cousin to help you warm up? This cranberry infused sangria will leave your tastebuds watering. Don’t believe us? Use the recipe below to try it out for yourself!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 1 cup cranberry juice cocktail
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup brandy
  • ¼ cup triple sec
  • 1 orange cut into slices
  • ½ bag of fresh cranberries
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Mulled Red Wine with Muscovado Sugar

We’re going to mix it up with thiss next suggestion. This mulled red wine is the definition of cozy. To start put peppercorns, fennel seeds and cinnamon in a large tea ball or wrap them in cheesecloth and secure them with kitchen string. Then, in a saucepan, combine the aromatics with the wine, bay leaves and orange zest. Cover and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand, covered, for 30 minutes. Remove the aromatics and orange zest strips. Stir in the sugar until dissolved. Serve warm, in glasses or mugs.

Ingredients:

  • Two 750-milliliter bottles (or the equivalent) of red wine
  • Zest strips from 1 orange
  • 1 1/2 cups muscovado sugar or other dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons black peppercorns, lightly crushed
  • One 3-inch cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, lightly crushed

Spiced Pear Sangria

This wine drink may be best for your holiday party, but regardless it’ll have your cozying up all the same. To prepare this drink add in the pears, apples, cloves, and nutmeg. Add the Damiana liqueur and stir. Add the wine and again stir, and then refrigerate overnight. When you’re ready to serve, pour and stir in the champagne, then serve in an ice-filled wineglass.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle chilled dry white wine
  • 1 bottle chilled champagne
  • 3 oz. Damiana liqueur (herbal liqueur with citrus and vanilla flavors)
  • 2 freshly sliced pears
  • 2 apples (sliced and cored)
  • 20 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg

Sparkling Apple Cider Sangria

Who says Apple Cider is strictly a fall trend?  This Sangria will pair perfectly with your dessert as you cozy up in front of the fire. This recipe looks fairly complicated but it is actually quite simple and gives off a high class vibe. Add some cognac and bubbly wine to dress it up even more!

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup cognac
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 750ml bottle of sparkling wine, chilled
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
  • Add the apples to a large pitcher reserving about 1/2 cup for garnishing. Add the cognac, apple cider, and chilled wine. Stir.
  • Fill the pitcher with ice. Pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice and top with sliced apple and pomegranate seeds.
